Unfortunately it’s tough to test the catastrophe version for many athlete. Athlete A would observe a pattern similar to this Inverted-U Hypothesis where optimal performance is seen in the exact middle of the chart. The thought of the Inverted-U hypothesis is generally accepted by many coaches and athletes but there has been criticisms made with regards to the actual shape of the curve in it’s effects on operation. Russian Psychologist Yuri Hanin’s adaptation of this the Inverted-U Hypothesis allows for two different manners of version in performance anxieties and stimulation levels. The inverted-U theory on the effect of arousal in sporting situations gives explanation to poor performances once an athlete is revealing the relatively low degree of physiological or psychological stimulation where they aren’t ‘psyched-up’ for its event.
